In late 2017, one of our customers presented us with a unique dust control challenge: How can a grinding shroud designed for flat surfaces be adapted to smooth angled edges while keeping the work area dust-free? Initially, the answer was simple – "You can’t... yet."
However, this question sparked action within our team. After brainstorming and sketching ideas, we quickly developed a prototype with the help of local resources. Fast forward just two months, and we proudly introduced a solution to this specialized issue: the Edge Eater™ Chamfer Shroud. – a handheld grinder shroud designed for precise dust-free chamfer grinding on angled concrete edges.
How to Use the Edge Eater™ Chamfer Shroud
The Edge Eater™ Chamfer System is ideal for concrete chamfer grinding in both new construction and restoration projects. It's perfect for applications such as parking garage pillars, concrete pole bases, and precast concrete.
This innovative system includes an easily adjustable guide, allowing the chamfer depth to be varied from 3/4” to 1-3/4”, enabling a fast, uniform finish.
Key time-saving features of the Edge Eater™ include the ability to use a single diamond wheel for both chamfer and flat grinding, and a quick, tool-free shroud change for efficiency on the job. What is the Purpose of a Chamfer Shroud?
A chamfer is a beveled edge, typically cut at a 45-degree angle. Chamfered edges are crucial in concrete applications because they help prevent chipping and damage to green concrete.

The Edge Eater™ Concrete Chamfer Dust Shroud by Esch. The Edge Eater™ is a dust-free solution to create or clean up a 45° chamfer on a concrete edge. Developed exclusively for Metabo T-Series and W-Series grinders and the Esch Vac 552 vacuum.
Ideal for making chamfered edges in parking garages, precast concrete, concrete pole bases, and columns. Works in both horizontal and vertical applications with easily adjustable depth. Creates narrow or wide chamfers with a simple wing nut adjustment (adjustable from 3/4" to 1-3/4".)
A reliable chamfer dust shroud and a unique diamond wheel create a perfect combination to quickly create a clean and consistent chamfered edge. The complete Edge Eater™ Chamfer Dust Shroud System is encouraged to maintain OSHA objective data compliance. Air sampling data is also available.
*A Chamfer is an edge beveled at a 45-degree angle. Chamfered edges are used to prevent chipping and damage to green concrete as well as mask imperfections or damage on cured concrete. Eliminating sharp corners also minimizes potential damage to other objects.
