Husqvarna SmartGuard Helmet: Inspection, Maintenance, and Disposal Guide

The Husqvarna PE10H SmartGuard Helmet is designed for professional saw operators who need reliable head, face, and hearing protection. To keep it performing as intended, it’s important to know how to properly inspect, maintain, and eventually dispose of it.

Inspection and Pre-Use Checks

The helmet is built to absorb force from small objects striking the top of the shell. It does not provide protection against impacts to the sides, front, or back of the head. Always remember these limitations when putting it into service.

Before every use, inspect the helmet closely. Replace it immediately if you see cracks, scratches, or any sign of damage. Even if there is no visible damage, the helmet must be replaced if it has been involved in an accident or incident.

The helmet’s internal suspension and neck strap should be properly adjusted for a secure fit. Ensure all six connection points in the suspension system are correctly locked in place. Do not use unauthorized modifications or accessories, as these can compromise safety.

Components: Earmuffs, Visor, and Chin Guard

Earmuffs

Earmuffs should always be checked before use. Make sure they lock into the correct position and are not cracked or damaged. The sealing rings and foam inserts inside the cups wear out with time and should be replaced about every six months. Always wear the earmuffs in noisy environments to prevent hearing loss.

Visor

The visor protects your face from debris, but it does not replace the need for safety glasses. Replace the visor if it becomes scratched, cracked, or dirty enough to affect visibility. Sunlight will also age the visor over time, so watch for signs of deterioration.

Chin Guard

The chin guard clips into place on both sides of the helmet. It should always be used with the soft internal pads in place for proper protection. Inspect the guard regularly and replace it if you find any cracks or signs of wear.

Daily Use and Positioning

The helmet’s components each have multiple positions depending on use. Earmuffs can be pulled down into operation position, flipped outward into standby, or rotated backward into a parking position. The visor can be lowered into full operation position or lifted into standby. Always secure the helmet tightly to your head before operating equipment.

Maintenance and Cleaning

To clean the PE10H helmet, use mild soap and water with a cloth. Do not soak the helmet, immerse it in water, or use solvents, sprays, or alcohol-based cleaners, as these can weaken the protective materials.

The earmuff cushions and foam inserts should be replaced regularly. If the earmuffs become wet, let them dry while in the parking position. Replace the visor or chin guard if they are scratched, cracked, or worn down.

Storage, Transport, and Disposal

When storing or transporting the helmet, keep the earmuffs in the operation position to avoid compressing them. Store the helmet in a clean, dry space, away from direct sunlight and chemicals. Protect it from physical damage while in transit.

When should I replace my Smartguard helmet? When the helmet reaches the end of its service life, follow your local disposal and recycling rules. The helmet includes a UV color indicator that starts red and fades with exposure. Once the indicator has fully faded, it’s time to replace the helmet.
