Properly mixing fuel is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your Stihl gasoline-powered equipment. Adhering to the following guidelines will help ensure your saws operate efficiently and safely.

Understanding the Fuel Mixture

50:1 Ratio: All Stihl gasoline-powered equipment requires a 50:1 mixture of gasoline and 2-cycle engine oil.

Consequences of Improper Mixture:

Excessive Oil: Can lead to carbon build-up on the spark arrestor.

Insufficient Oil: May cause scoring on the piston and cylinder, potentially damaging the saw bearings.

Fuel Selection and Storage

Octane Rating: Use 89+ octane gasoline with low or no ethanol content.

Mixing Quantity: Only prepare enough fuel for a few days of work to maintain freshness.

Storage Duration: Avoid storing mixed fuel for more than 30 days to prevent degradation.

Refilling Practice: Always use all remaining fuel before preparing a new batch.

Supplies Needed for Mixing Fuel

• 1-gallon gas container

• Synthetic 2-cycle engine oil

• 89+ octane gasoline with no more than 10% ethanol

• Gloves

Steps to Mixing Fuel

Add Oil: Pour 2.6 fl. oz. of synthetic 2-cycle engine oil into the 1-gallon gas container.

Add Gasoline: Fill the container with gasoline up to the 1-gallon mark.

Mix Thoroughly: Secure the lid and shake the container by hand to ensure the oil and gasoline are properly mixed.

Following these best practices will ensure your saws operate efficiently and have a prolonged service life.
