The Story of the Edge Eater™ Chamfer Shroud

In late 2017, we were approached by one of our customers with a unique dust control issue – how do we use a grinding shroud developed for a flat surface to smooth an angled edge while remaining dust-free? The simple answer was, “You can’t... yet…” The question quickly turned into action, with our team thinking and sketching, eventually building a prototype with the help of some local resources. Fast forward two months, and we have a new, dust-capturing handheld grinder shroud for an extremely specialized application. Introducing the Edge Eater™ Chamfer Shroud.

How to use the Edge Eater Chamfer Shroud

Use the Edge Eater™ Chamfer System for concrete chamfer grinding in both new construction and restoration applications, such as parking garage pillars, concrete pole bases, and precast concrete. The Edge Eater™ contains an easily adjustable guide that varies from 3/4” to 1-3/4”, creating an easy, time-saving chamfer and a quality, uniform finish. Additional time-saving benefits include the ability to use 1 diamond wheel for both chamfer and flat applications, and quick, tool-free shroud change.

The Edge Eater™ Chamfer Shroud is designed to work with all Metabo W-Series and T-Series grinders, Esch Cut and Grind Wheel, and the EschVac 552 Vacuum. Reliable equipment, a dust-free shroud, and a unique diamond wheel create a perfect combination to quickly create a clean and consistent chamfered edge. The complete Edge Eater™ Chamfer System is encouraged to maintain OSHA objective data compliance. Air sampling data is also available.

What is the Purpose of a Chamfer Shroud?

A Chamfer is an edge beveled at a 45-degree angle. Chamfered edges are used to prevent chipping and damage to green concrete. Creating the edge also helps mask imperfections or past damage on cured concrete. Eliminating sharp corners also minimizes potential damage to other objects.

Use the Edge Eater™ after form removal to clean up an existing chamfer or create a new 45-degree chamfer on a concrete edge. For the official release details, view our press release and Edge Eater Chamfer System page. Available for purchase now!
